Coach Screws (also known as hex lag screws) are hexagonal drive screws used for directly fastening into wood. Common applications include retaining wall and outdoor play equipment. These screws have a zinc plated finish and are made from carbon steel. When used in conjunction with a plastic or nylon plug, coach screws can also be used in masonry applications. Used in pre-drilled hole, the length of a lag screw is measured from the underside of the head to the pointed tip of the screw.
